Hands Off Our Drag (H.O.O.D.) Campaign: Stand with Drag, Stand with Freedom
Over the past two years, we’ve witnessed a troubling rise in harassment and intimidation against drag performers—creative artists who embody self-expression, joy, and inclusivity. Extremist groups and anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric have falsely framed drag as harmful, leading to real-world consequences: harassment, legislation targeting the LGBTQ+ community, and efforts to erase drag from public spaces.
Drag Is Not the Problem. Hate Is.
Since Pride Month 2022, more than two dozen anti-drag protests have disrupted events meant to bring joy and literacy, such as drag queen story hours at libraries and bookstores. These family-friendly events aim to foster learning and acceptance but have become the focal point of baseless and harmful campaigns.
The stakes are higher than ever. With over 600 anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced since the 2024 elections, the rights and safety of drag performers—and the broader LGBTQIA+ community—are at risk.
Drag is not obscenity. It is artistry, identity, and community.
